تحولت قضية الحكم الصومالي عمر أرتان إلى واحدة من أكثر الملفات إثارة للجدل في الساحة الكروية، ليس بسبب استبعاده من كأس العالم فحسب، بل بسبب الموقف الباهت لكل من FIFA وCAF تجاه حكم كان قبل أشهر قليلة فقط يصنف ضمن أفضل الحكام في القارة الإفريقية ⚖️⚽.

أرتان، المتوج بلقب أفضل حكم إفريقي لسنة 2025، كان على موعد مع صناعة التاريخ كأول حكم صومالي يشارك في نهائيات كأس العالم، قبل أن يتم منعه من دخول الولايات المتحدة عبر مطار ميامي، ليجد نفسه خارج القائمة وفي تركيا دون أن تتضح الصورة بشكل كامل.

أما الفيفا، فقد أصدرت بيانا حول القضية، لكنها اكتفت بالتأكيد أنها لا تملك أي سلطة على قرارات الهجرة الأمريكية، دون أن تسجل أي اعتراض على القرار أو تبدي موقفا داعمًا للحكم الذي اختارته بنفسها للمشاركة في أكبر حدث كروي في العالم. موقف اعتبره العديد من المتابعين مخيبا للآمال، خاصة وأنهم كانوا ينتظرون دفاعا أقوى عن أحد حكامها أو على الأقل مطالبة بتوضيحات رسمية حول أسباب منعه.

الأكثر إثارة للاستغراب هو صمت الاتحاد الإفريقي لكرة القدم (CAF)، الذي لم يصدر أي موقف يذكر تجاه حكم منحه قبل أشهر جائزة أفضل حكم في القارة. فكيف يتحول أفضل حكم إفريقي في ظرف وجيز من واجهة للتحكيم الإفريقي إلى ملف يتم تجاهله بالكامل؟

ما حدث يكشف مرة أخرى أن الشعارات المتعلقة بحماية الحكام والدفاع عنهم تتراجع عندما يتعلق الأمر بمواقف تتطلب موقفا واضحا وشجاعة مؤسساتية حقيقية.

عمر أرتان خسر فرصة تاريخية للمشاركة في كأس العالم، لكن FIFA وCAF خسرتا بدورهما فرصة الدفاع عن أحد حكامهما وإثبات أن العدالة لا تقتصر فقط على ما يحدث داخل المستطيل الأخضر.

The case of Somali referee Omar Artan has become one of the most controversial stories in football, not only because of his exclusion from the FIFA World Cup, but also because of the disappointing response from both FIFA and CAF toward a referee who, only a few months ago, was regarded as one of Africa’s finest officials ⚖️⚽.

Artan, who was named Africa’s Best Referee of 2025, was on the verge of making history as the first Somali referee to officiate at a FIFA World Cup. However, after being denied entry to the United States at Miami International Airport, he found himself removed from the tournament roster and stranded in Turkey, with the full circumstances of the incident still unclear.

FIFA issued a statement regarding the matter, but merely emphasized that it has no authority over U.S. immigration decisions. The organization neither challenged the decision nor expressed meaningful support for a referee it had personally selected to participate in the world's biggest football event. Many observers viewed this response as deeply disappointing, expecting FIFA to defend one of its officials more strongly, or at the very least request an official explanation for his exclusion.

Even more surprising has been the silence of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The organization has yet to make any significant statement regarding a referee it honored just months ago as Africa’s top official. How can the continent’s best referee suddenly go from being the face of African officiating to a case that is seemingly ignored altogether?

What happened once again highlights how promises of protecting and supporting referees often fade when situations require clear leadership and genuine institutional courage.

Omar Artan has lost a historic opportunity to participate in the World Cup. Yet FIFA and CAF have also lost an opportunity of their own: the chance to stand behind one of their referees and demonstrate that justice extends beyond the boundaries of the football pitch.
